But that’s not all that happened: one month later, when the project ended, she had raised $1.2 million—becoming the first musician to pass the million-dollar mark on the popular crowdfunding site.

He’s not a doctor and he’s not popular. The name is totally ironic. At least that’s what Brian Roberts, better known as Doctor Popular, will tell you if you ask. But the truth is that this Mission-based photographer is popular. He started shooting on his iPhone and posting his work on Instagram when the website was launched. He has around 7,000 followers on Twitter, almost 19,000 on Instagram, and has been featured in the New York Times and SF Weekly, among other media.

The Oakland Museum of California hosted 2012 the first museum retrospective of comic artist Daniel Clowes. The exhibition, curated by Susan Miller, featured all the key artwork in the career of the celebrated cartoonist, who is based in Oakland, and included 100 original pieces from 1989 to 2011.
